3. Searching a Database

It's a good idea to start with a database that covers a broad range of topics, so let's try Infotrac Expanded Academic ASAP.

Most databases offer at least two types of searching:

  • Keyword Search — Usually the default option; searches the entire record for your terms, so less precise but more forgiving
  • Advanced Search — For more precise and efficient searches in specific areas (Title, Author, Abstract, Subject Headings, Notes) of the record

The Advanced Search will allow us to more easily combine search terms, so let's use our keywords there.
